So our garden’s tulips really are at their peak now, and I can’t let the moment go without one more post.
We’ve hit the high point of Tulip season in our garden.
Oh, I ache. My back aches. My thighs ache. Even my fingers ache. Even so, I have an undeniable feeling of accomplishment, having planted approximately 370 bulbs in our garden this weekend. Just 30 to go.
Sure it’s the middle of August, but now is when you want to think about planting bulbs in the fall. Online retailers are ready to take your order. I know because I just gave mine.
Here are just a bunch of random pictures from last weekend.
Last week I placed my order for fall bulbs from John Scheeper’s. Normally I order bulbs right around Labor Day, so I was about a month later than usual. But it’s been a busy fall.
My fellow gardeners, the state of the container Tulips this year has been: AWESOME. And people who know me will tell you that I never use that word.
At the beginning of September, before we left for Japan, I ordered bulbs from John Scheepers. Partly this was out of fear that upon return I would be in a jet lagged haze, causing me to forget this essential chore. Also, I didn’t want the bulbs to arrive late in the season.
Our Tulip season began early this year, although it included some false starts and sneak attack hard frosts. And it seems to be ending early as well. One of the last of the Tulips to go is ‘Ballerina’. I love the color and the shape. When the flowers mature they seem to be a brighter, …
So there’s good news and bad news on the Tulip front.
