Tulip ‘Ballerina’
Our Tulip season began early this year, although it included some false starts and sneak attack hard frosts. And it seems to be ending early as well.
One of the last of the Tulips to go is ‘Ballerina’. I love the color and the shape. When the flowers mature they seem to be a brighter, more uniform orange. Few Tulips can glow in the afternoon sun with the same intensity.
These are stunning! Bravo : )
They are, aren’t they?
Have to agree with that, they are one of my favourites too!
Shows you have impeccable taste in Tulips!
Agreed – one of my absolute favourites.
You have good taste!
Wonderful photo, Jason!
Thanks, Nadezda!
I remember those beautiful orange tulips from your post last year. We have just been buying bulbs today, but I’m going to go back and see if I can find Ballerina. (and hope the Cockatoos are not partial to orange, they snipped off the red tulips last year.)
Blast those Cockatoos, they sound worse than the squirrels, though more handsome.
Well…the Cockatoos have personality which helps me to forgive them!
Beautiful!
Thanks!
A glowing performance.
I thought so, too.
There’s nothing quite so lovely as tulips glowing in spring sunlight! I love the shape of ‘Ballerina’.
Agree on both counts.
Beautiful!
Just gorgeous. Or tulips are just starting to bloom – hopefully they stick around for a while.
Ours are finishing up right now.
We had a very light frost on the ground this morning. Hopefully everything survived. Love the tulips!
In my experience the Tulips can usually handle a light frost, especially if they haven’t bloomed yet.
I would not have guessed the color from the name. My Tulips are just opening. Have you seen the Tulip article in the recent Gardens Illustrated?
My copy of that issue just arrived Friday – haven’t read it yet. True that you don’t see a lot of orange ballerinas.
Lovely, one of my favourites too.
It’s hard to resist.
Nice color!
My favorite.
Can’t go wrong with orange…brilliant!
That’s how I feel.
Your love of orange is showing, Jason 🙂
Very stunning tulips! Such a lovely color.
