So guess what. Judy and I are going to New York City for a few days and I have to get ready, so this will be a short post.

But I will say that our ‘Conca d’Or’ lilies are blooming, which is nice.

Conca d’Or are Orienpets, a hybrid of Oriental and Trumpet lilies. They are tall and very fragrant.

Most of them are in the Sidewalk Border, growing up through the ‘Raspberry Wine’ Monarda.

There’s also one left here in the Driveway Border, though there used to be three. You can see the ‘Eye-yi-yi’ Daylilies and the Winecups (Calirhoe bushii) are still blooming, and the Yellow Coneflowers (Ratibida pinnata) are getting started.

I’ll close with another of Judy’s Chickadee videos. Here we can see the fledglings are a lot bigger and are very insistent about being fed. Enjoy.

I’m planning to mostly ignore the blog while we’re gone, but I may post a photo or two. This is the first trip we’ve taken in a couple of years, so I am both anxious and excited.

Until next time, be well!

  1. You might want to check out Little Island in the Hudson River not far from the Chelsea Market and the High Line. We were there 2 weeks ago and timed bookings were required after 12 noon — but walk right in if you go in the morning (it opens at 6am).

  2. Everything looks beautiful there. Our lilies were a little stunted this year with the heat, and the hollyhocks will bear no blooms. The buds were all dried and brown, the plants only half height.

I love the chickadee video. We see some here, too.

  3. Enjoy New York City. Loving your chickadee update and those orienpet lilies. Unfortunately, I find the smell of some lilies to be noxious (ditto for Ziva paperwhites and some late lilacs) and I tend to stay away from non-daylily lilies. I wonder if Orienpet lilies will affect me that way, because yours are gorgeous!

  4. Wow ! those lilies are gorgeous ! .. I am disheartened with the lily beetle getting ahead of me at this point but I just saw a Muscadet in the garden and I am loving it. I just have to be more disciplined with the neem oil ! .. Love seeing the chickadee family !
Have a great time on your trip !

  5. It’s hard to leave the garden in summer and especially so when lilies are blooming as well as these, but I can’t think of a much better reason than a trip to New York. I love the city, but haven’t been there for many years. I hope you had a wonderful time.
