First Snowfall
Last Sunday we awoke to an inch or so of snow on the ground. Nothing like the avalanche that hit western New York, but a bit startling even so.
It was frigid through most of the week, then warmed up.
The snow left little white hats on the dried flower heads of the ‘Annabelle’ Hydrangeas.
As of today the snow has withdrawn, muttering under it’s breath: “I’ll be back”.

An inch is nice; a foot is fun for the kiddies; more than that and I’m glad I live in the South. Have fun!
As I’ve gotten older snow has become more of a chore and less of a pleasure.
We had the first snow as well Jason. What to do… winter comes.

I´m glad that you didn´t have the amounts we can see they got in N.Y. Here in Denmark it is still very mild.

Being from WNY, the only thing I can say, was I was glad to be north of the mountains of snow. I would have loved to see it though, just be able to get back home. No worries Jason, where you live, I think your feet of snow is on the way. 😀

Not enough for a winter wonderland, but even a dusting has a certain magic…like the hydrangea caps.
Magic? I suppose, but I admit I am not looking forward to our next snowstorm.
There is no doubt it will be back. 🙂 We had rain this week and today was sunny and low 50’s – gorgeous. I cannot even imagine how those folks in Buffalo are digging out of that snow disaster.
I know, and I hope I don’t have to find out.
Oh no, not that horrible white stuff again. It seems as if you only just got rid of it. And now it’ s back again.
It wears out its welcome more quickly each year.
They’re saying we might have a white Thanksgiving. Plowable, at that. I’m hoping they’re wrong but I know there’s no escaping it.
It’s snowing today but the temp is hovering right at freezing so it probably won’t last.
Isn’t it amazing how pretty the first snow is…we had 8 inches a week ago and now all gone….I am happy to see it gone for a while longer.
We just got some more snow today.
Our weather sounds very similar to yours … so far. 😉 Highs in the teens on Monday, 50F today, back to 37F tomorrow. Fun, fun! Stay warm and safe!

Just enough snow to accentuate the bones of your garden. Looks great. After days of very cold weather, we are headed up to 74 today. Maybe I can get some bulbs planted.
I would think where you are that could still be done.
The snow is very pretty in your garden, but I am glad to be down here out of snow’s reaches. I know it is loved by many, but I had enough! Poor Buffalo!

No, I’m just putting out plain suet, nyjer seed, and peanuts in the shell.
It will be back. So it goes. Looks like the new patio has a microclimate thing going on.
Do you think the pavers absorb heat and are just slightly warmer than the ground?
A change has been introduced. I wonder what the result (if any) will be. You’ll probably know more in the spring.

Exactly. My ‘Northwind’ switchgrass is also bent to the ground.
Hello Jason, I think we’re still a way off a snowfall yet, but we have had our second heavy frost of the winter season. More than anything else it’s been dull, very wet and generally miserable. We’ve had some surprisingly mild days though they’re getting increasingly few and far-between.
I think your winters are milder than ours, which sounds appealing at the moment.
You can bet that it will be back! I see you have Annabelles by your fence. Aren’t they great? I picked and stuck some of my dried Annabelle hydrangea blooms into a winter arrangement outdoors and it looks good.
