The View from Little Roundtop
Judy and I are visiting friends who live outside Baltimore. Yesterday, they drove us to the Gettysburg National Military Park, about two hours away.
This is the view from Little Roundtop, where one of the pivotal moments of the battle occurred. The park is quite sprawling, reflecting the large area where the struggle (which involved about 160,000 troops) occurred.
Today we are driving down to Annapolis, Maryland’s state capitol, and tomorrow we’ll visit Longwood Gardens. More when we return.

Yes, humbling. I did leave feeling like I had a much better sense of what happened during the battle.

My first visit to Gettybsburg, though I visited Vicksburg with my younger son a few years ago.

You will love visiting Longwood. They are having the Chrysanthemum Festival now. They pull and clear outdoor beds early, hope you get to see some of them. Peirce Woods should be in good fall color now.
This is a familiar view! Did you get over to confederate ridge while you were in Gettysburg? I lived less than half a mile from the intersection where confederate ridge turns into seminary ridge, and the seminary ridge road was my walking/jogging route.
We did, we drove the whole circuit from confederate ridge to Little Roundtop to Seminary Ridge.
Lucky you to see Longwood Gardens! Gettysburg is a fascinating place, isn’t it?! I remember thinking deeply of the historical significance of it when I was there. Enjoy your trip!
The hubby and I visited early this summer. Our impression of the area may have been influenced by the rain that was falling throughout our vacation finally stopping, but we found it to be amazing.
